The newly revamped Noordgesig library was officially launched on 08th September 2021. which was also International Literacy Day 2021. Noordgesig library has a collection size of over 10 800 information sources. This collection is complemented by an eBooks collection (cojlibrary.overdrive.com) accessible 24/7 through smart devices using personal data or library wifi.
The library is divided into four (4) main sections; namely: Children section, Adult lending section, young adult lending, and reference section respectively. All the sections are well equipped with relevant fiction and non-fiction library collections. The children’s section consists of children’s books such as picture books (PB), Juvy Beginner Readers (JBR), Juvy Early Readers (JER), English Picture Books (EPB), etc. The adult reference section is housed on the 1st floor with material for tertiary-level students, high school learners, and adults. Materials include dictionaries, encyclopedias, and yearbooks available for in-house use only.
In addition, the library also has an eClassroom, a study area, two discussion rooms, and an activity room. The activity room can be booked by members of the community for workshops, meetings, or training. The eClassroom is a very useful resource to the Noordgesig community where they can bring their own laptops or access a limited number of laptops for basic computer usage needs such as typing, applying for jobs, or for developing their digital skills by accessing online courses and other digital content. In addition, the library provides unlimited free WI-FI to the public.
Around the library precinct, key events and community activities are recorded in murals including the nickname “BULTE”, which is regarded by locals as the nickname for Noordgesig; which means Hills in English. The nickname “B-U-L-T-E” is also represented in the library through five (5) colorful letters; inspired by the work of McFadden Bharley, in the form of future, some serving as bookshelves.
