Phiri Library

Phiri library is situated in Soweto close to the recreation centre and clinic. The library offers people free access to a wealth of information that they cannot find elsewhere, whether online, in print, or in person. We work closely with local schools and support educators. The library has many educational programmes for everyone from juvenal to old. Programmes that we host are Science Scuffle, Story Skirmish, Battle of the Books, and Business Workshops. The librarian also visits the schools and pre-school to read stories and provide training. Phiri Library also provides Homework Assistant, Career guidance, and Information Literacy. E-books are accessible by registered members of the library on overdrive through the main page of this website under erseources.

  1. Are there PC lending services at the library? I would like to do some schoolwork and I do not own a Computer. If not, can you please refer to me a library with lending services?

  2. I would like to start by giving thanks and well done, to one young librarian at Phiri Library, for attending to my concern. (The first time I went there it was early January 2026, and the yard looked like a bush, it did not look safe to enter the place of study) But the young men promised to get people involved and clean up, Today im here and the place looks amazing. Thank you, for your dedication and loving the people of Soweto enough, to make sure we are in a clean environment. Well Done!

Security guy at the main gate, may I kindly and humbly request that he occupy his post, and show love for the work he does. The main gate is always open, and when he is there, he does not even question or give guidance.

The first time i came i used an bolt and at the entrance i had to go to him insite his booth to ask if i was at the right place, and where to go?

The second time i came driving, I waited by the gate for 5+ minutes waiting for im to guide and he was standing with friends at the reception area looking at the car, later he then came, i had to be the one calling him and asking him if i can go through the gate or if the was another gate? he was just passing me going outside the gate, this is not right, can we love and respect our people.

In short, May the security guy do what he is employed for.
