Sandton Library

Soak up over 92,000 books in the heart of Sandton’s bustling shopping mecca. A place to escape in peaceful, book-filled pleasure. In the beautiful Sandton Library on Nelson Madela Square you can surround yourself with three floors of books, relax on the couches, disappear in a novel, and make use of the computer and internet facilities. The Library offers a collection of over 92,000 books as well as audio books, videos, music CD’s, language tapes, the local daily, and weekly newspapers, periodicals and Provincial and Government Gazettes The Sandton Library is open to all members of the community. Membership is required should you wish to borrow material. To join, take along a copy of your ID and proof of residency and fill out a form at the Sandton Library. For reference enquires:

      Thank you for your interest in joining our libraries. To apply online> You visit our website home page and click “membership:” You fill in a Google form. Your membership will be ready within 7 days and you use the allocated number at any branch within the Johannesburg municipality, including Sandton Library. You will also be able to borrow ebooks and access online magazines, newspapers and articles

      you can join our libraries for free. You can register for FREE online as a library member, click on Membership from the website homepage ( and fill in the Google form, for yourself and the children. Your membership numbers will be ready within 7 working days. You can use that membership number for E-books and audiobooks through the Libby app, and other online resources like digital newspapers and magazines, or online articles for research through our website. You can also use it at any of the 87 City of Johannesburg libraries for printed books. You can also visit any branch to use study areas.

      Yes, with your membership number, you will have access to our Overdrive E-collection of books thought the Libby app,but you can also visit our Eresources section of the website under Free Digital content, where you will find links to databases for e-journals, e-newspapers and magazines and audio books.
